Maintenance Building
MCE worked with Ankrom Moisan Architects to provide a new 14,000 sf space to expand C-TRAN’s ability to service its vehicle fleet. The metal deck roof spans between steel roof beams, which are supported on pre-stressed concrete wall panels that were manufactured off-site. This allowed C-TRAN’s maintenance efforts to continue uninterrupted in other existing buildings on site, and accelerated the construction schedule considerably.
Operations Building
The team also provided a 25,000 sf of new office space for C-TRAN to coordinate its operations. Mass timber roof panels span between glulam roof beam lines, which are supported on glulam columns. Each of these elements is architecturally exposed. In order to control costs, mass plywood panels were used at the roof rather than cross-laminated timber panels. The floor plan includes an on-site gym for C-TRAN’s employees, as well as a lounge, and ample space for collaboration.
C-TRAN Vehicle Barrier System
Additionally, MCE provided the design for a custom vehicle barrier cable system adjacent to a site retaining wall. Various railing alternatives were evaluated for the Owner, and barrier cables were selected in order to minimize the visibility against the landscaping. The foundations for the cable support posts were evaluated to ensure the adjacent retaining wall would remain stable during a vehicle impact.
